Assignment Task 1

The UK tech sector employs over 1.7 million people, was valued at $1 trillion(£764bn) for the first time in 2022 and adds over £150bn to the UK economy every year. Companies in the digital economy apply their tech and expertise to solve problems and enhance day to day services, providing benefits for consumers across food delivery, health, energy, and many more sectors. The tech industry encompasses several business sectors, like e-commerce, internet software and services, financial technology, consumer electronics and telecommunications.

In groups of no more than 5 - Prepare a 15-minute presentation on the ‘ Role of data and information within the Technology industry` - you can choose one or more sector and organisations to help illustrate your findings :

Your presentation should cover the following tasks:

  1. What type of data is collected and how is it used by the industry / sectors / organisation(s) . Identify if this is Big Data, and if this is 1st, 2nd, or 3rd party data ?
  2. Describe traditional market research and how this is different from Big Data and used in the industry / Sectors
  3. Explain how information is captured and stored with key references to types of databases and management information systems and find examples from the hospitality sector
  4. Describe the impact of technological development on the role and use of data in the business decision making process within this industry / sector
  5. Set out how information and data is used within the day to day operations of organisations within this sector and what is its strategic importance to the organisations within this industry
  6. Set out a research plan for this industry to improve data capture and its use in a sector/organisation.

Requirements: Your slide deck should have an agenda, introduction, clearly defined sections / headings and a conclusion. Your sources should be cited on the slide and then fully referenced in a reference list slide at the end of the presentation.

It is anticipated that you will use specific organisational examples as well as sector specific information.

You will also have the opportunity to work on your group presentations during seminar time and you can get tutor feedback on a draft presentation in the week before your pre-arranged timeslot.

All group members should participate in the delivery of this group presentation.

You should submit your slide deck material in a suitable format, as one submission and a separate document with your accompanying notes and supporting material, including a detailed group log, registering who has carried what work.

Assignment Task 2

In groups of no more than 5 - prepare and deliver a 15-minute presentation and supporting evidence based upon Modern Market Research & Data Analysis Techniques (Part 2 of this module) . You should use your specified CW1 sector , sub-sectors and selected organisation(s) to help to illustrate your presentation.
The presentation should cover the following tasks:

  1. What is the role of quantitative research in modern marketing research and data analysis, with specific emphasis on questionnaire design - with examples of good practice taken from your chosen sector / organisations
  2. What is the role of qualitative research in modern marketing research and data analysis, with specific emphasis on discussion guide design and use - with examples of good practice taken from your chosen sector / organisations
  3. Set out what correlation and regression is and how it is used, with examples taken from chosen sector / organisations
  4. Set out what time series is and how it is used, with examples taken from your chosen sector / organisations
  5. Provide a critique of issues surrounding the analysis techniques in 3 and 4, with specific reference to Big Data and its use in modern business decision making
  6. From course material and wider authenticated study set out how data could be collected and used more effectively to make more informed business decisions. You should particularly consider the development of new technologies and their possible impact on your chosen sector.

  • This is a group presentation.
  • Please keep a record of group work meetings, including attendance and work allocation v work done to the required standard. This should be submitted with the final report and slides. Use Google Docs to do this.
  • Presentations will take place in a pre-arranged timeslot during normal tuition hours for this module. Failure to attend or failure to be punctual (without good reason) will be treated as a non- submission.
  • Presentations will be timed
  • You will receive verbal feedback immediately after your presentation so you may want to have a pen and paper to hand to record some of this feedback
  • You should use this feedback to make alteration to your final BB submission
  • You will NOT be provided with your grade at this time but via blackboard within a three-week period.
