Overview
Upon completing this course, preservice teachers should demonstrate:
- Knowledge and comprehension of diversity and inclusion constructs and their correlation with students` physical, social, and intellectual development, influencing learning outcomes.
- Understanding of students` need for safety, connection, and acceptance, alongside curriculum requirements, legislation, policies, and practices promoting inclusive learning environments.
- Advanced grasp of differentiated learning and teaching strategies catering to diverse abilities, including legislative requirements supporting students with disabilities.
- Competence in effective communication with parents/carers and employing teaching strategies accommodating students from various cultural, linguistic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Task
Response to Scenario
Part A: Initiate research into students` diverse needs to inform interactions with parents and school support staff. Select five students from the Class Profile, including one with challenging behavior or ADHD.
Part B: Review literature to enhance planning strategies. Demonstrate:
- Understanding of diversity and inclusion constructs` impact on students` development and learning.
- Strategies for differentiated learning and teaching, complying with legislative requirements and organizational policies.
- Awareness of students` need for safety, connection, and acceptance, aligning with curriculum and well-being priorities.
Part C (two activities): Explore inclusion from various perspectives and reflect on acquired knowledge.
Apply expert cognitive, literacy, and communication skills, ensuring accuracy in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and bibliographic referencing.
