Assessment - Evidence of comprehension and application of information to ethical scenarios:
Students must engage with two ethical dilemma scenarios, responding to each with the following questions:
Question 1: Identify one instance of how the counselor`s personal beliefs might impact the ethical nature of the counseling relationship in each scenario.
Question 2: Specify the ethical principle(s) pertinent to the scenario, referencing one of the two codes provided to guide your response.
Question 3: Outline any pertinent reporting concerns, justifying your responses.
Question 4: Explore a potential course of action for the counselor to address the dilemma in each scenario.
Note: Write the response to the first scenario in the first person, assuming the role of the counselor; for the second scenario, write in the third person.
Your responses should be informed by lectures and prescribed unit readings. However, independent research is expected to support your arguments and conclusions.
Utilize either the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics to inform your decisions, and ensure careful consideration of relevant state and/or federal legislation.
Include APA 7 referencing. Your assessment should incorporate a minimum of five peer-reviewed academic journal articles published from 2010 onwards, in addition to any textbook references.
