Assessment Task Description

Create a PowerPoint presentation which analyses differing world views on ageing and the nurses’ role in promoting wellbeing for older people across contexts of care. In 2021, 27.6% of Australian’s were born overseas; primarily in England, India, China, New Zealand and Philippines (ABS, 2021), with an ageing population and rich diversity, it is pertinent to appreciate diverse social constructs and understandings of health and ageing.

In a 7–8-minute presentation, the student will

  • Define the concept of ageism and describe how ageism and bias may impact healthcare service delivery across care contexts.
  • Explore varied world views on ageing by comparing and contrasting Australian First Nations peoples and one (1) other CALD groups’ perspectives on ageing and social constructs related to ageing.
  • With reference to the Australian Aged Care Quality Standards, discuss the role of the nurse in promoting dignity, respect, choice in decision making, and

Examine ageing research and share 2 (two) strategies or interventions that have enhanced the experience of dignity in healthcare for culturally diverse older people.
