5N0690: You Are Required To Give A 5 To 10 Minute Presentation On Your Structured Report Or Other Topic Of Your Choice:

Skills Demonstration 1 – Presentation (10 marks)

You are required to give a 5 to 10 minute presentation on your structured report or other topic of your choice, which you should record as evidence.  You must include a visual aid (powerpoint slides) as part of this presentation.

The following will be expected:

  • Evidence of thorough preparation and rehearsal (2 marks)
  • Clear structure (3 marks)
  • Good breathing and voice control, with variety of tone and clarity of diction (3 marks)
  • Excellent body language, gesture and stance (2 marks).

N.B. The visual aid used will be submitted as your Visual Communications Skills assignment and should satisfy the criteria for this aspect of the Skills Demonstration.

Skills Demonstration 2 – Dialogue (10 marks)

At the end of your presentation, you should answer the three questions provided to you on Moodle.  You must record your answers to these.  You must ensure that you use;

  • Effective communication (2 marks)
  • Positive body language (2 marks)
  • Listening skills (2 marks)
  • Relevant questions (2 marks)
  • Clear speech (2 marks)

Skills Demonstration 3 – Discussion and Negotiation (10 Marks) 

You are required to prepare for a debate, with the motion being:

‘Communication Technology has had a positive impact on today’s society’.

You must decide if you agree or disagree with the above statement and write a 500 word account of why you agree/disagree.

You should show clear evidence of:

A Clear Position Taken on Motion (2 marks)

Decision/conclusion (2 marks)

Aim/task adhered to (2 marks)

Good Structure (2 marks)

Word Count Adhered to (2 marks) 

Skills Demonstration 4 – Message taking/giving – A role play exercise. (10 Marks_

You will take a telephone message from a relative of a resident, which you are expected to pass on to the ward manager.  This message will be in the form of a recording on MOODLE.  In preparation for the exercise you may wish to write the headings under which you wish to note the important points when taking any message.  You should record yourself relaying the message to the ‘individual’.  You should also submit written evidence of taking the telephone message.

You will be assessed on your ability to;

Extract Essential/non-essential information (2 marks)

Detailed message given (2 marks)

Audible voice (2 marks)

Clear diction (2 marks)

Confident use of telephone (2 marks)
