Assignment Title

For this case study you are required to discuss the care of a person with an intellectual disability who has presented with some form of pathophysiological condition/disorder whilst on your clinical placements. Examples of this condition include, but are not restricted to Gastrointestinal disorders (GORD/Obesity), Musculoskeletal (Osteoporosis), Endocrine (Hypo/Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes Mellitus), Heart, Respiratory, Urinary conditions etc

Please note: Neurological conditions are excluded (these are covered in Neurobiological Disorders Module in Stage 3).

Assignment Guidelines

Introduction:

• The student may select the relevant condition.
• The introduction must present the person’s condition and the rationale for selecting this condition to discuss.

Main Body:

• Analyse the aetiology and pathophysiology of the condition.
• Describe the clinical features and associated complications of the condition. Discuss the nursing care that the person may require in collaboration with allied health professionals.
• Analyse the appropriate medical/pharmacological management and/or prevention of this condition.
• Explore the additional considerations that may be required to support a person with an intellectual disability with their lived experience of this condition.

Include evidence of best practice and current knowledge which must be referenced.

Conclusion:

• Draw together the issues explored and the key issues raised in the study.
  The DKIT (2019) Harvard system of referencing must be used.
  You can include Appendices at the back of your assignment.
