Main Objective of the assessment
The primary objective of this assessment is to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge essential for business management, covering issues and debates in management research. It aims to provide an understanding of relevant research methods and techniques for Masters level project work. The assessment facilitates students` ability to comprehend different research designs, identify appropriate methodologies for management issues, evaluate the use of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and demonstrate various skills including recording, communication, and explanation of research material involved.
Description of the Assessment
You are tasked with producing an individual research report addressing the following tasks on a topic of your research interest. The report should adhere to a margin of +/- 10% of the specified word count. The assessment encompasses Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) 1 to 4.
1. Introduction and Research Background
In this section, establish the nature, purpose, and structure of the study, and introduce the research topic.
1.1 Background and rationale
Provide the background to the research topic, rationale for the research, and its potential contribution to theory and practice. Identify the problem statement, gap in literature, and demonstrate how your research fills this gap.
Research aim and objectives
State the aim of your research and formulate SMART objectives or research sub-questions derived from gaps in current literature.
2. Literature review and evaluation
Conduct a critical review of literature, focusing on evaluation rather than description. Utilize valid, relevant, and up-to-date academic and peer-reviewed journal articles. Identify gaps in the literature and discuss the contributions of other authors to your research topic.
3. Research Methodology
Present, evaluate, and justify the components of your research methodology. Articulate how the study design is chosen and developed to achieve the research aim and objectives.
4. Planning (Overall Presentation) and ethical considerations
Discuss relevant research ethics issues and consider Brunel University Ethical guidelines for research. Address potential limitations of the study and propose options to overcome challenges. Provide a Gantt Chart or similar to outline a detailed timetable of all research aspects.
These adjustments aim to enhance clarity and coherence in addressing the assignment requirements.
