Assessment Instructions

Scenario:

Presume you are the new gaming manager at one of the venues analyzed in the first assessment. After the first two weeks in this role, you notice certain venue practices that may breach the relevant state regulations related to responsible gaming.

Firstly, you notice that certain individuals regularly use large amounts of cash (over $20,000), often gambled in a single evening. In addition, these individuals appear to be wearing the colors and clothing of a local biker gang suspected of being involved in organized crime. However, none of your staff reported this to you.

On the other hand, you overhear a visitor talking to one of the staff members. The visitor mentioned that a family member is gambling too much and spending all their money in this venue. When the visitor asks how to help their friend, the staff member responds that your family member may want to make up the loss and leaves the conversation. What’s more, you have read many negative commentaries on the venue’s social media page from family and friends of the gaming patrons. They are concerned with the venue’s approach to addressing the rising concern of problem gambling.

In response, you then inquire with gaming staff about the reasons behind such practices and learn that one of the venue’s internal rewards policies offers incentives to gaming staff if they were to achieve a certain spend on poker machines at the end of each night. Last month, the gaming supervisor, Joey, was awarded a $2000 gift card for electronics as the direct result of achieving the highest revenue in the venue’s business operations history.
