Assignment: Analysis of food product labels and evaluation of their potential impact on health.

Assignment guidelines

This assignment requires you to prepare a file of food product labels and summarise their potential impact on health. To do this, you need to

  • Collect/source product labels from the each of the following types of products
    Group 1: One meat product and one meat alternative product (e.g. veggie burger)
    Group 2: One dairy milk and one alternative plant-based beverage
    Group 3: One gluten containing cereal product and one gluten free alternative cereal product
    Group 4: One probiotic food and one probiotic supplement
    Group 5: One fresh fish and one processed fish product
  • For each food show the label, the ingredients, and the nutrition table, as provided on the product. There will be three images per food
  • Under each label, analyse the contribution the food makes to GDAs in table format. Do this for each product label separately.
  • Then once you have the two labels and the two tables from the category (e.g. one meat and meat alternative product) you will include a comparison of their health and nutritional benefits, making reference to the GDAs and numbers from the tables.
    Please keep the word count for the health comment to MAX 250 words/food group. Do not exceed this.
