Assignment Task for Factors Affecting Competitive Business Structures Assignment

Consider a real-world example (or case study) that is a discrete part of a company’s/organisation’s business or a business with which you are familiar (or one you can research at the required level), i.e., a particular product or service and/or customer segment. Provide an economic analysis of the major factors affecting the competitive structure for your chosen product/service.

Individual work.

You are going to write a report of 2,000 words, which, regardless of the type of presentation you are going to lead, should address the following questions:

  1. Describe both the company/organisation, their product/service or customer segment, and the motivation(s) for your choice.
  2. Present the economic theory (or theories) that you cover.
  3. Provide an example to illustrate one main argument.
  4. Conclusion.

Tips: For both your Individual Executive Report and Group Presentation, you can look at scholars who have adopted/followed the same theory of your choice as an extra source.

Note: All material (academic and other) that you cite should be properly referenced in the text and in the reference list (Harvard style) at the end of your report. Correct referencing is important, and you must adopt the Harvard referencing style. To quote facts, figures, theories, and theorems without accrediting their original source is academic malpractice as well as plagiarism. Direct quotations and results must be footnoted, stating the author, publication or book, date, and page or table number. If you rework published data or use it as the basis of your calculations, you must identify the source in the same way. If you paraphrase the arguments or theories of other people, you should again acknowledge the source in a footnote. Footnotes should be listed at the bottom of the page they refer to.

Notice that the word limit should be treated as a maximum as succinctness is required. Assignments over this length will be penalized by a 10-mark deduction for each 200 words over the limit (pro-rata). Please mark a word count on your finished script. You may wish to use relevant appendix materials and diagrams.

No text should be copied from other published sources (including the web) without full referencing and acknowledgment, as this contravenes the University’s policy on plagiarism.
