Assignment Task
CHC30121 - Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care Relationships Cluster
Introduction and Purpose
Work Placement (also known as Vocational or Clinical Placement) is a critical component of your learning experience where you will undertake activities in the workplace directly related to specific units of competency in your course. Your work-based learning will focus on linking your knowledge and skills with real-world situations. During Work Placement, you will perform tasks relevant to these units of competency and complete assessment activities assessed by the TAFE Queensland Assessor.
The purpose of the Work Placement Student Logbook is to identify and record workplace tasks directly related to these units of competency and record the number of hours required for each specific unit of competency/qualification.
You are expected to demonstrate the tasks/skills listed under the relevant Unit of Competency during the work placement:
Part A. Placement Activity Log
The following section contains your Placement Activity Log for each cluster listed in the Units Associated with Placement section. The activities contribute to your assessment. As each cluster is completed, the relevant pages plus the Log of Hours (demonstrating you have completed the minimum hours for all units in the cluster) must be returned to TAFE Queensland.
When completing the Placement Activity Log:
Engagement with a baby when assisting the transition from home to care, and engagement with a toddler when assisting the transition from home to care?
Listening to and communicating sensitively, respectfully and positively at least once, with a child aged between birth and six (6) years during a sustained conversation encouraging the child to share their story and any ideas?
Did the student satisfactorily guide a child’s behaviour using a strength-based approach?
Did the student satisfactorily demonstrate the following communication techniques that support learning, development and wellbeing:
Part B. Direct Observations/PROFESSIONAL CONVERSATION
This section is to be completed by the TAFE Queensland Assessor. Please contact your TAFE Queensland Assessor to arrange to complete the direct observations below via an accepted method (e.g., face-to-face, video streaming, or video recording where allowed).
Reflection
During your Work Placement, you may be required to keep a reflective journal. The following framework was adapted from one formulated by Gibbs. It is recommended that you use this framework in your reflective journal. Remember that your reflective entries are not a diary of everything you have undertaken or experienced while on placement; reflection involves `thinking about` and/or `thinking back` on your experience. Reflection is about exploration, questioning, learning, and growing throughout your workplace experiences.
Some opportunities for reflection may include:
