For the written assessment of this module, students are required to respond to a case study involving the patient, Mr. Claude Toe, known as Mr. X for confidentiality.

Mr. X is a 59-year-old builder who, during his work, stepped on a nail and has subsequently developed a wound and infection under his right big toe that is taking longer than usual to heal. The full patient record can be found within this document below.

Assignment

Students are asked to produce a response to the case study addressing the following questions:

1. Present Mr. X with relevance to:

   • Identifying the circumstances and mechanical environment that may have led to Mr. X’s wound.
   • Assessing Mr. X and his wound.

2. Propose a management plan for the resolution of Mr. X’s wound:

   • Note the cross-infection practices you would need to observe as you manage the wound.

3. Discuss prophylactic measures Mr. X could take in the future to prevent such injuries:
