This ‘take home test’ requires you to write a short response to the two questions below. Each response must not exceed 600 words.

Question 1: Applying the Sociological Imagination

Choose an everyday issue relevant to your life as a university student—such as student protests, student debt, or moving out for the first time. Use the four elements of the sociological imagination—historical, cultural, structural, and critical—to analyze the issue. How do historical context, cultural norms, societal structures, and critical perspectives explain and impact this aspect of student life?

Question 2: Designing a Sociological Research Project

Based on the everyday example you analyzed in the first question, design a sociological research project that explores this phenomenon further. Formulate a specific research question. Describe the sociological theories and concepts you will apply. Detail your methodology, including how you would select participants, collect data, and analyze results. Discuss any ethical considerations and the potential impact of your findings on understanding societal patterns and behaviors.
