Write a 6–7 page final research paper analyzing a humanities-based topic of your choice that connects historically and contemporarily in the United States. Your paper must present an argument or thesis statement related to the arts (literary, visual, performing, etc.) and support that argument with reliable evidence.

Key Requirements

  1. Contextual Analysis:

    • Identify and analyze how the social, cultural, and/or historical contexts of creative works (e.g., literature, music, visual art, popular culture, architecture) inform their meanings, values, and significance.
  2. Themes and Symbols:

    • Examine and apply the themes, symbols, and messages in creative works to your own life, identity, and experiences.
  3. Power Dynamics:

    • Analyze how creative works are used to contest, assert, or mediate social and cultural power in relation to race, class, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and/or religion.
  4. Thesis Development:

    • Develop a clear and compelling thesis statement related to the arts and support it with well-researched, reliable evidence.
  5. Critical Engagement:

    • Be critical in your analysis and incorporate key themes and characteristics learned throughout the course.
  6. Personal Connections:

    • Draw connections between the creative works and your personal life or experiences.
