Brief

For this portfolio, you will write mini-reviews of 3 sports injuries other than the one you cover in your CASE STUDY presentations. For each, you will need to conduct research (literature review) and discuss the extent of the problem (epidemiology), its risk factors, the injury mechanism(s), and the evidence for injury prevention or rehabilitation programs. Your ability to display an understanding of the levels of evidence for each of these will have a significant impact on your grade.

Epidemiology:

• Outline the extent of the problem, including incidence, severity, and prevalence statistics from a range of sources. Highlight any limitations in the evidence.

Mechanism:

• Discuss the movements thought to cause injury and the strength of the evidence for this.

Risk factors:

• Discuss proposed and proven risk factors with attention to the quality of evidence for each. Classify the risk factors as modifiable or non-modifiable.

Injury prevention or rehabilitation strategies:

• Choose either rehabilitation OR prevention strategies. Discuss researched strategies and their effectiveness, considering the quantity and quality of evidence available. Mention adoption rates if relevant.
