Assessment Instructions

This assessment comprises of two tasks.

  1. Asks you to perform an analysis of a sport or activity in relation to its physical demands.
  2. Asks you to outline how you would develop a program for the sport or activity in Task 1.

1. Needs Analysis 

For this task you will need to address the following points based on a healthy individual participating in an activity or a sport, and then perform a full needs analysis on your chosen activity or sport. This will entail analysing the sport or activity in relation to:

  • Fitness components that are utilised, with explanations of how they are evident within your chosen activity or sport.
  • Intensity and time frame for the activity.This could include: HR data, distance covered, metabolic demand etc.
  • Types of movements.
    e.g., kicking, throwing, jumping, landing, etc.
  • Any unique factors, such as playing position, event type etc.
    e.g., difference in physical demands between forwards and backs in rugby.

2: Planning a Program 

Outline how you would develop a training program to meet the demands of the sport or activity used in Task 1. This needs to include the following:

  • What training types would you use and why? You need to discuss a minimum of THREE methods. Consideration should be made to what types of training align with chosen sporting demands.
  • Choose a minimum of FOUR training principles and state how you would apply each principle to a training programme.
