how the experience of the university could be a better Rite of Passage, reaching for these higher goals?

Question 1

When young people pass through a rite of passage together, differences between them are minimized and a strong sense of ‘communitas’ or bonding is created between them. Using models such as Living Learning Communities, please suggest how UCC can encourage ‘communitas’ through practical, operational strategies that encourage on-campus, in-person encounters for new students.

Question 2

Secondary school culminating in the Leaving Certificate (or your relevant equivalent) is a Rite of Passage. A Rite of Passage should help the individual become integrated into the community, and society and indeed extend to humanity and the planet. Can you tell a story about how the experience of the university could be a better Rite of Passage, reaching for these higher goals?
