Scenario 1
The question of the mental health and wellbeing of individuals has become increasingly prominent in recent times. In theory at least, the old approach of ‘out of sight, out of mind ‘ has been replaced with a recognition of the need for society to grapple with and come to a mature understanding of the ‘problems of living ‘ that many people face in terms of their emotional and psychological health.
In recognition of the need for social care workers to be up to date with current thinking on this issue, your workplace supervisor has asked you to carry out research that covers a range of issues addressed by theories of mental health and illness. You have been asked to ensure that your paper explores both a range of factors that impact upon mental health (both positively and negatively), and how current theoretical perspectives and social policy inform best practice in terms of mental health.
Research paper 1
Your research paper should critically compare different models and theories of mental health. Here you are required to assess, analyze, review and evaluate how a range of social and psychological factors, including early experiences in childhood, and early intervention when needed, can impact upon a person’s mental health and wellbeing (both a positive and negative sense).
In terms of practical advice on dealing with mental health problems when they arise – suggest action that can be taken by social or community workers in addressing the early warning signs of mental stress. Here you should propose interventions that can be used to promote healthy methods to cope with stress.
Your research paper should critically review and critically appraise the effectiveness ( strengths and weaknesses) of the 2006 vision for change mental health policy (both in theoretical and practical terms).
