Set of Data Visualisations
Your Task
A set of visualisations is to be created, by you working alone.
• You will be given a business problem and data.
• You are to start to create visualisations in preparation for your report in Assessment 4.
Assessment Description
Which Two European Football Leagues should the Australian broadcaster, SBS, purchase TV airing rights to, based on team performance statistics?
Business Background:
SBS will choose two (2) of the following European Football leagues to broadcast:
- English Premier League
- Bundesliga (Germany)
- La Liga (Spain)
- Serie A (Italy)
- Ligue 1 (France)
SBS will base its decision on avoidance of drawn matches, most number of shots on target (SOT), most number of corners, most number of fouls, most number of yellow cards, most number of red cards - the more the better from a viewing perspective. In addition, they are seeking close games.
Your written report (in Assessment 4) will ultimately end up in the hands of the Programming Director of SBS, so any final decisions made should be supported by data.
You will be given an Excel file on games played in each of the above European Football Leagues from 2005 to 2019.
Assessment 3 requires you to provide visualisations to support the report you will write in Assessment 4.
Assessment 3 also requires you to consider what you have learnt about cognitive load and pre- attentive attributes. Write down at least four dot points.
The final report will be written in assessment 4.
Data set
• Your facilitator will send you the data file before class.
• Evaluate the visualisation software that you have used so far (Tableau or Power BI) in terms of capability and ease of use (given your own experiences). Write notes in your draft about why you think one software is better than the other.
• Based on your evaluation, open the data file in either Tableau or Power BI
• Create as many visualisations as will be needed to write your assessment 4 report. Include points on cognitive load and pre-emptive attributes in relation to your visualisations.
