A 6 -week old Indian boy admitted to pediatric ward with spina bifida and lumbosacral myelomeningocele & hydrocephalus associated with neurogenic bladder & bowel.
The meningocele was repaired on the 9th March 2015, external ventricular drainage (EVD) inserted on 16 March 2015 with 4 hourly catheter release. During last admission it was found the operation wound was infected. CSF and blood for culture and sensitivity were sent, and intravenous Meropenem antibiotic was commenced.
Discussion
– Identify the significant signs of infection.
– Priorities the nursing diagnosis and management.
