Question: Think about the image of the surfer that you have in your mind: is the surfer a man or a woman? If and when you have watched surfers in the water, did you notice how many were women? Or, did you not think about it? If you did not think about it, explain why. Discuss the problems that women have had in the surfing community. How have women been represented in the surf media? How have women been treated within the world of professional surfing? Do you see these kinds of inequities that are based upon gender in your own everyday life experiences?
