Assignment:
Nurses are critical to delivering on the promise of “leaving no one behind”. They make a central contribution to national and global targets related to a range of health priorities (WHO, 2020). Identify a change initiative that you were involved in and critically discuss its implementation in relation to achieving an established healthcare outcome. Link your discussion back to the assignment statement. Explore factors that helped or hindered the implementation of the change initiative. Use relevant literature to support your critical discussion as well as your clinical or professional experience to demonstrate your understanding of leadership concepts.
Student guide to assignment
This guide has been developed to help you prepare and submit your assignment for the Leadership: Professional and Clinical module delivered as part of the PGDip and MSc Nursing and PGCert / PGDip and MSc Advanced Leadership programs. This assignment is very ifferent to the one you may have just completed for the ARM module. It is much broader and requires you to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the different concepts covered during the module. You should read this guide carefully and refer to it when preparing your assignment. You are also reminded to refer to the student writing guidelines during this process and to adhere to the School requirements on the submission of assignments.
Getting started
This assignment requires you to draw on 3 concepts covered during this module and critically discuss the statement “Nurses are critical to delivering on the promise of “leaving no one behind”. They make a central contribution to national and global targets related to a range of health priorities” (State of the World’s Nursing Report. WHO, 2020). When choosing your concepts do not choose more than two from each module pillar (list provided below). This will enable you to demonstrate your knowledge and your ability to apply theory to practice.
This assignment is broad and recognizes that students taking this module are at different stages in their careers and have different roles within healthcare. It allows you to explore and write about leadership in a way that is meaningful to you. You are more likely to do well in an assignment when you write about something that interests you or with which you have had a close association. Always make sure that even your personal discussion is substantiated with relevant literature.
The following list is an example (but not an exhaustive list) of what healthcare outcomes you could base your change initiative and discussion around either at an organization or national level.
